Lammot Response
3. Lammot asserts, in her excerpt “Shitty First Drafts” , that writing is more about the process than the product. Writing happens in stages, with much of it being based on small bits of genius that you come up with when just writing whatever comes to mind; Writing is based heavily on where you start and what your stance is, which is easy to develop in a drafted type of process that Lammot describes. I don’t think I fully agree with her points on first drafts based on my own experience and process. I put a lot of those first ideas in my outline and brainstorming phase and cull the ideas prior to writing a draft; Her basic ideas do align with my process mostly, but I find myself having to inject my own opinions into my writing in personal, opinion based essays. The author seems to have an easier time expressing her views than I do, as I usually spend a while waffling between viewpoints during my outlining phase before I am truly satisfied with a stance. I need to organize ideas before I start trying to write paragraphs and connect them.
