Outcome 5 (Document Work MLA) – Document their work using appropriate conventions (MLA) (231 words)
I have never really struggled with my citations in the past, but practice is always a positive thing. The thing I focused on most was using signal phrases more often and making sure my parenthetical citations were in the right place. Below is an example of a signal phrase quotation in my essay #2 (image 1):

I got a lot of practice with parenthetical citations and quotation placements in this course, some examples of which I have shown below (see images 2 and 3):


My use of citations felt appropriate and I made sure to include them whenever I used an idea directly from another author/person or when I was paraphrasing said ideas. Properly formatting quotations began to feel like second nature to me by the final paper. Below I have a sample of a paragraph with the direct quotation highlighted yellow, paraphrase in green, parenthetical citations in blue, and signal phrase in red (image 4):

I used strictly online sources for this course, so I did not get much practice with differing citation types based on format, which is something I will need to practice more in the future. Here is my works cited page from essay 3 (image 5):

Citations are extremely important so that you give people credit for their ideas and so that people can learn more about source material of reference if they are interested.
